Hunter - Sign of the Hunter

Excelent band from Germany that plays a very good heavy metal. HUNTER have gathered a collection of distinctly Teutonic riffs, and served 'em up in a simple, straight forward package of twin guitars, heavily accented vocals, and ultra-solid drumming that is light on originality but heavy on; to me the best tracks are "Words Can Hurt" and "Crusaders Of Hell".

Kissin’ Dynamite – Addicted To Metal

Addicted to Metal starts off with the kick ass title track, that features former Accept front man Udo Dirkschneider. If the band was trying to make a statement, with an opening song, this was the way to do it. This is a great song that has already gotten quite a bit of airplay on Hard Rock Hideout Radio.

The opening riffs of “Run For Your Life” reminds a lot of Whitesnake. This song is extremely catchy, and is the first song that Johannes Braun truly made an impressionant song. This guy sing louder than hell. this song is hardly recomended!!!

“Supersonic Killer” is a rifftastic rocker that is going to appeal to a lot of metal heads. When Johannes Braun cuts loose with the metal screams on “Supersonic Killer” he sounds like a young Don Dokken. Ande Braun and Jim Müller cut loose with some killer riffs.

‘High Enough” is a kick ass cover of the Damn Yankees tune. Johannes Braun does a great job on the vocals, and the band does a pretty good job putting their spin on the song.

“Hysteria” is an interesting tune. Braun’s bombastic vocals on this song push it towards the power metal side of the fence, and yet, the band pulls the reigns in to keep it on the hard rock/ metal side of the fence. The opening of this song reminds me of Foreigner’s “Juke Box Hero”, but it becomes something completely different.

Just when you think Kissin’ Dynamite is going to slow it down, they pull out another killer tune with “In the Name of the Iron Fist”. The song starts off slow, and builds into a killer power metal tune that would make Gamma Ray or Primal Fear proud! Great stuff.

Sooner or later, I knew a ballad would show up on this CD. I didn’t expect one as good as “Why Can’t You Hear Me” would be on here. This song is an arena ready tune, with massive hit potential.

Overall, I am very impressed with Addicted to Metal. I wouldn’t expect a young band like Kissin’ Dynamite to put out such a quality release. Addicted to Metal is going to turn a lot of heads, and surprise the hell out of a lot of metalheads out there. Germany has another fine band on their hands!

And the last song "Metal Nation", An Himn of metal. I dedicate this song to all my metal friends and followers of the blog!!!

Grand Illusion - View From The Top

Step into the time machine for a trip back to 85 when AOR ruled the world. These swedish fellas now have a complete sound with their 4th album. The first 2 ones were under the name Promotion and they sounded more into the west coast direction with Toto as the main influence. On the 3rd album "The book how to make it" they changed style and became a little tougher with big pompous refrains but had still a bit on the way to go. "View from the top" has everything you want as an AOR freak,large and fluffy produced outstanding 80?s style. The music in itself is a 9 rating but since I am no fan of singer Peter Sundell who has too much of a scandinavian sounding voice, the rating falls to 7 which means the record is very good! Sundell reaches those high notes anyway he pleases and I?m impressed by that,but he?s too weak when it comes to singing with feeling that this genre of AOR needs so bad. I?m thinking of kings and legends like Peppy Castro of Balance,Steve Perry of Journey or Tom Kelly of I-Ten or an example.........they handled it 100% from the heart. But scraping the vocal part off we?re down to masterful writing of heavenly Amazing Overdone Rocknroll. And this style of AOR should be overproduced over and over again,I wouldn?t want it any other way. The keyboards are truly great and echoes the winds of Kansas through some songs like "Battle for you heart" and "I refuse". The harmony vocals couldn?t be done in a better way,lots and lots of thick choirs along the road of AOR wellness. It?s interesting how they have been influenced by another strong swedish pomprock group called A.C.T,I?m thinking about the musical kinda influenced rock on songs like "Zeroes and ones" and "Straight face". Here?s a mix of City Boy,Queen, E.L.O and Le Roux. Grand Illusion is behind one of this years best AOR releases. And then if you would love Sundell?s voice,I?m pretty sure you?re gonna rate this album even higher than I am. AOR is a way of life with Grand Illusion beeing
